Disco Don Calvin Harris is set to join forces with hip hop legend Jay Z and movie star Will Smith for a new television show.
The unlikely trio are reportedly working with HBO to develop Higher, a half-hour comedy series ‘set in the world of electronic music’.
Higher will be written by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh while Fresh Prince of Bel Air star Will Smith will take on the role as executive producer alongside rap mogul Jay Z.
The show will be the second collaboration for the pair who have previously been linked to the upcoming Annie remake, which stars Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz.
Harris is a Grammy award winning songwriter and producer and was the first ever DJ to win the Ivor Novello Songwriter of the Year Award.
The news comes as the latest indication that electronic dance music is moving into the mainstream. This week Under the Electric Sky made its debut at Sundance Film Festival, a documentary about Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival. EDM artist Diplo also revealed that he’s producing a film based around the genre in the style of Eminem’s 8Mile.
A release date for Higher is yet to be announced.
