Blues legend Joe Bonamassa became set in stone on one of Liverpool’s – and the world’s – great music landmarks. The Liverpool Cavern Club, immortalised by The Beatles and a whole host of others who played here at the height of their fame, today honoured the man from New Hartford, New York, with one of their prestigious inscribed bricks on the club’s Wall of Fame. This ahead of his gig at The Cavern this evening, in tribute to the contribution of Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and the British Blues Explosion.
The Bonamassa Brick, one of 1,800 +, will now sit alongside those honouring not only other Liverpool greats like Cilla Black and Gerry & The Pacemakers, but also the likes of The Who, Queen, Howlin’ Wolf, Wilson Picket, David Bowie and BB King. Page, Beck and Clapton are also up there.
The free gig in front of 300 lucky invited fans is what Bonamassa has described as a “thank you” to all those that have helped his career grow from playing small clubs to sold-out arena tours worldwide. This intimate concert will preview material he will perform at five special concerts in the UK this July, beginning this Saturday July 2nd at Hoghton Tower, Preston, with Joanne Shaw Taylor as Special Guest, where Joe will pay homage to the British blues rock guitarists that inspired him.
On receiving the commemorative Brick facia and the gift of a new Hofner guitar from The Cavern Club, Joe said: “Arriving here is like walking on hallowed ground and I can’t tell you what an honour it is to be given this award. The whole gig has been kind of last minute, but just the thought of playing on that stage and playing the music of Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton is fantastic. I am so pleased to be able to play here.”
Joe Bonamassa will be playing Hoghton Tower on July 2nd, with Special Guest Joanne Shaw Taylor. Full Tribute to the British Blues Explosion gigs are as follows.
