Soul sensation Aloe Blacc is set to make a whistle stop UK tour and if you haven’t heard his delicious tones, tune into Trevor Nelson tomorrow morning as he takes over the Radio One Live Lounge.
Aloe instantly reminded us of Bill Withers at Purple Revolver Towers and his single I Need A Dollar has been on heavy rotation since Trevor started spinning it last year.
Out on May, 1, it will be the first single from Aloe’s album Good Things which is released in the UK through Epic – in the US, the album was released on the popular indie label Stones Throw.
Former emcee Aloe wrote the song after losing his job, being inspired by field recordings of chain gang songs and the song quickly became an anthem for these troubled economic times.
Aloe explained: “It’s super ironic, but it makes so much sense.
“Hip Hop songs were still talking about being rich and on top of the world. The theme of this album is a discourse about capitalism in America.”
Aloe is about to embark on a select UK tour including a headline slot at Live At Leeds held in Leeds city centre on April, 30.
We urge you to check him out, and watch this space for review and pictures.
