What can be said about Eyeden’s gig at Bumper on the 23rd of January?
That a lot of people missed a very good show.
Which is a shame.
If singer Deniz Apaydinli is anything, he is talented. The nineteen year old university student’s headline set took place in Liverpool’s own Bumper and was worthy of a much bigger venue.
Under the name ‘Eyeden’, Deniz has had aspirations for a career in music for a long time. The Coventry born rapper has seen success in his hometown already, performing alongside acts such as Meridian Dan, showcasing himself as a talent not to be ignored.
Walking into the gig we were greeted with a friendly and charming welcome from the man himself, even being given an EP copy of his set for our troubles. If Eyeden was nervous, it barely showed.
Taking to the stage as a confident and charismatic young performer, it was hard to not have your attention on him.
Standing as a solo act and commanding the stage is a difficult task; one Deniz made look easy as he performed his first set, including new single ‘I Got You’, already gaining attention from Youtube with over 1500 views in a few days, showing that even as a newcomer to the music scene he doesn’t have trouble in gaining a public’s attention.
Having a small crowd clearly didn’t bother him too much and you’d be forgiven in thinking this was a gig done by a old time professional – something Deniz is truly on his way to becoming. The care and dedication to his performance was obvious.
A mix of genres, combining his soulful singing voice with steady and slow rapping make for emotional and creative tracks – something that could easily intertwine itself within the rap culture.
Obviously brave enough to experiment with his voice and break down any genre barriers, it’s clear this guy has the dedication to go far.
Performing next at the Manchester Academy on the 21st February, Eyeden should once again show off his unique talents to a much bigger audience.
