Last summer, the UK’s festival season was an unlucky casualty of the Covid-19 pandemic, with many disappointed ticket holders receiving cancellations to their summer plans.
This year however, festivals have been given the go ahead after the announcement of hopeful lockdown lifting from June 21st. With the vaccination programme running smoothly, several events have already put tickets on sale, with organisers confident that fans will be able to enjoy festivals safely.
Events that were originally scheduled to take place earlier in the season- such as Glastonbury, have unfortunately already had to cancel.
Many have rescheduled for safer dates in late summer, with the majority being held over August bank holiday weekend.
Here are some of the biggest UK festivals that have been announced to take place this summer.
Creamfields
Dates: 26-29 August
Location: Daresbury, Cheshire
Creamfields tickets were released in February and sold out in record time.
The organisers of the biggest dance music festival are promising fans: “The party of the summer,” with Tiesto, Martin Garrix, Eric Prydz and Chase and Status already confirmed to be making an appearance.
Reading and Leeds
Dates: 27-29 August
Location: Little John’s Farm, Reading and Bramham Park, Leeds
Due to take place over August bank holiday, Stormzy, Liam Gallagher and Queens of the Stone age have already been announced as headliners.
Reading and Leeds is regarded by many fans as second only to Glastonbury in the annual UK music calendar.
This year, the festival is due to host 200,000 fans at Richfield Avenue in Reading and Bramham Park in Leeds, with two main stages at each site.
Parklife
Dates: 11-12 September
Location: Heaton Park Manchester
Originally meant to go ahead in June, Parklife has been shifted to September to minimise the risk of cancellation.
Organiser Sacha Lord told the NME: “We’re not considering operating with social distancing – I personally don’t like these socially distanced events.
I think to go to a proper gig or a proper rave you need to be shoulder-to-shoulder in a hot sweaty environment. You cannot create that atmosphere at a socially distanced event.”
One in the Woods
Dates: 17-18 July
Location: Orrell Hill Wood, Liverpool
‘One in the Woods’ is a brand-new festival for 10,000 people, coming to the “enchanted realm” of Hightown, near Liverpool.
The dance music festival will feature everything from techno and house to drum and bass music.
Among those performing include Sub Focus, Jeff Mills and DJ Marky.
Big Feastival
Dates: 27-29 August
Location: Kingham, Oxfordshire
Back for its 10th year, Big Feastival is set to return to Blur star Alex James’ farm in the Cotswolds.
James said: “We’re all in need of a serious celebration this year so we’re pulling out all the stops to ensure this is our best line-up yet, roll on August!”
Noisily Festival
Dates: 8-12 July
Location: Coney Woods, Leicestershire
Noisily Festival takes place underground, deep in the heart of the Coney Woods.
Organisers have warned fans about fake tickets that have been circulating, after tickets have already sold out.
The team has also made a ‘Covid guarantee,’ saying that if government advice changes, and anyone can’t attend rescheduled dates, they will receive a “100% refund at face value (minus booking fees).”
Camp Bestival
Dates: 29 July-1 August
Location: Lulworth Castle, Dorset
As soon as the government revealed its four-step plan for emerging from lockdown, the family-friendly festival announced its return immediately.
The line-up includes Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada and Becky Hill, with Dick and Dom, Sam and Mark and Mr Tumble during the day to entertain the kids
