Now in its fourth year, The North Wales Blues & Soul Festival in Mold, Flintshire, is only a short hop from Liverpool, Wirral and Chester and has a line-up to rival any other music festival around.
We have two real stars headlining this year in Texan guitar genius and Bo Diddley protege Hamilton Loomis, who is appearing on Saturday August 5th as part of his sell out European Tour, and the enigmatic and haunting Jo Harman who is closing the festival on Sunday August 6th.
In addition, there are sensational sets guaranteed from The Stevie Nimmo Trio, Connie Lush, John O’Leary & Sugar Kane, Greg Coulson, John Verity and the many other great artistes who will all be performing live, up close and personal right across this star-studded music weekend.
Besides the superb array of music and being located in a wonderful Mold town centre park site, a great selection of local real ales, pilsner lagers, ciders and a wide range of wines and other popular tipples are available on site, along with some great food and local specialities to suit all tastes.
Fancy staying over to enjoy all three days? There’s great camping available within strolling distance of Kendrick’s Field, at the local Mold Alexandra Football Club, and plenty of hotels, B&Bs and other places to stay nearby.
Unlikely as it seems, however, you might fancy taking a bit of a break from some of the world’s finest Blues & Soul music. Never fear. Historic Mold has lots to offer and it is all within easy travelling – and hearing – distance of Kendrick’s Field.
If it’s eateries you want, there are many fine cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants in Mold (the Fat Boar gastro-pub and the exceptional, family run Parivaar Indian Restaurant are to name but two).
Fancy some shopping? Not only are there stalls on site at Kendrick’s Field, Mold town centre boasts some of the finest independent and national stores around, as well as an extremely popular indoor market. On Saturdays & Wednesday’s, the town offers the biggest and best street market in North Wales with nearly 100 stalls spread right across the town centre.
And if history’s your thing, there’s the delightful 15th century parish church, tribute to the Bard of Wales, Daniel Owen, and a plethora of ancient castles and other historic sites to explore nearby. Mold even has its own motte and bailey park area, which is more than worthy of a visit or in which to chill.
This not forgetting the famous Loggerheads Country Park , of course, which is a mere 2 miles away in the Area of Natural Beauty where you can climb Moel Famau and look across towards the Liverpool and the Cheshire plain! From the mountain summit, you can also see across the Vale of Clwyd: a truly memorable sight indeed!
And after the festival goes to bed for the night, some of the artists will even be making special appearances in a number of Mold’s pubs and bars, so keep an eye on the notice boards to see who’s playing where and when to enjoy an even more intimate music experience long into the night.
