This weekend sees Live From Jodrell Bank Transmissions 004 and 005 take place, with the likes of The Australian Pink Floyd and Manchester dance legends New Order take to the stage.
The Live at Jodrell Bank series sees artists performing in a unique and dramatic setting, bringing science and music together. Previous shows have seen bands project visuals onto the iconic 76 metre Lovell telescope.
The Australian Pink Floyd will headline the first night, performing in full The Dark Side of The Moon in a fitting tribute for its 40th anniversary while New Order will play on the second night without bassist Peter Hook after a fallout which frontman Bernard Sumner said was like “opening the gates of hell.”
Also performing over the two days are support bands like Hawkwind and Johnny Marr who will perform some Smiths classics along with new solo album, The Messenger, as well as a host of creative science experiments on offer during the daytime.
As well as a Science Arena, Jodrell Bank Astrophysicist Dr Tim O’Brien will be putting the giant Lovell telescope through its paces live from stage, where audience members can find out more about pulsars, rapidly rotating stars and he’ll be sending out radio waves across the universe!
