Liverpool International Music Festival delighted crowds in Sefton Park yesterday with an eclectic mix of amazing music, entertainment food and fun and Purple Revolver were on hand to witness it all unravel.
This year sees the most inspired and electric line-up yet, with a full and diverse programme showcasing artists such as Gorgon City headlining the main stage with X Factor finalist Fleur East getting her star shine on and warming things up nicely – read our full review – Fleur East dazzles.
As we music fans in the UK come to expect, you have to be prepared for all kinds of weather while you’re getting your groove on and LIMF gave us the gift of music to help us get through the torrential downpours and bask in the late afternoon and evening sunshine.
Man of the moment Jax Jones stormed on to the main stage with a DJ set so strong, we’re sure the bass lines were felt all the way down at the Pier Head.
Speaking with the “You Don’t Know Me” singer after his set, we asked whether he felt welcomed in Liverpool.
Jax said:”I performed here a few years ago, and everyone was like, who is the guy jumping around the stage?
“But now everyone knows the songs. I love Liverpool, it’s a great crowd.”
Our new music scribe Lois headed over to the it’s Liverpool Stage where local artists and bands were being championed and the hardened music fans were waiting to hear from a dazzling array of raw talent.
Firstly Pixey took to the stage, with her vibrant looks and even more youthful sound, mirroring the cool vibes of Charli XCX and Haim. Definitely one to watch out for.
We were most delighted with The Sugarmen, who have created a massive buzz at a lot of festivals of late and channelling similar sounds to The Libertines. Their song Local Freaks (also the title of their upcoming album) kept the crowd dancing through the rain. Stay tuned for our backstage interview with them.
“Liverpool legends The Christians appeared to be harvesting the grass at Sefton Park, with classic tunes to good to miss, including a rendition of The Beatles’ iconic Here Comes The Sun to keep the clouds at bay.
Tomorrow, some 60,000 spectators will be gathering for the final day of LIMFl, celebrating its fifth successful year, to watch some brilliant acts such as Corinne Bailey Rae, JP Cooper and Slick Rick.
