Hollywood star Idris Elba is stepping away from the screen to get behind the decks and show off his DJ skills as part of this year’s stellar Creamfields line-up.
The British actor found fame as Stringer in The Wire, but to clubbers across the globe his is known as DJ Driis.
The 40- year-old, who also starred in Thor and Pacific Rim started building his vinyl spinning credentials at the tender age of 14.
Idris spent many years as a DJ in Hackney, struggling to find acting work before landing the role of Stringer, which sent his TV stardom soaring.
Next month he joins Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong and Sven Vath at the International Music Summit (IMS) dance music conference in Ibiza.
There’s also rumours that he’s been offered a summer residency at Ibiza Rocks alongside Zane Lowe, Mark Ronson and Example.
He’ll take the helm in the Toolroom Records Arena, at the Daresbury festival where any Wire devotees will surely be camped out to catch a glimpse of him in action.
Idris says music has always been his main passion and it would be like a dream come true to be able to have a successful DJ and acting career.
He said: “Djing gives me so much pleasure, I have so much fun becuase I know my crowd.
“I think I know what people want to hear and I’m trying to establish the idea that you don’t have to be one person.
“If you have other talents you should explore them.”
