This year’s Glastonbury has thrilled festival-goers with a little something for everyone. With just three weeks to go before the festival kicks off, we take a look at what Glastonbury has to offer.
As other festivals announced their headliners, the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna, Eminem, Kings Of Leon, the Killers, the Stone Roses and Justin Timberlake appearing at a few, the long-awaited Glastonbury line-up was revealed.
Off to an impressive start, Arctic Monkeys, Mumford and Sons and the Rolling Stones were announced as this year’s headliners.
Glastonbury excels at pleasing everyone for 2013, and joining the headliners on the Pyramid Stage are Dizzee Rascal, Primal Scream, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Vampire Weekend , The Vaccines, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Kenny Rogers, Ben Howard, Rita Ora, Rufus Wainwright, Jake Bugg, Professor Green, Laura Mvula, Billy Bragg, Rokia Traoré, First Aid Kit and Haim.
Appearing on the Other Stage are Portishead, Chase & Status, The xx, Foals, Example, The Smashing Pumpkins, Alt-J, Two Door Cinema Club, Public Image Ltd, Tame Impala, Alabama Shakes, Editors, Azealia Banks, Of Monsters and Men, The Lumineers, Enter Shikari, I Am Kloot, The Hives, Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra
Amongst the artists appearing across the weekend are Public Enemy, Bastille, Maverick Sabre, Cat Power, The Horrors, Dinosaur Jr, Crystal Castles, Miles Kane and Seasick Steve.
The Theatre & Circus fields offer an amazing array of entertainment, from the sublime to the ridiculous, a plethora astounding, breathtaking and thought-provoking acts are to be seen.
The Big Top will play host to the interestingly named Swiss duo, F-ART. The beauty and elegance of their high wire dance, aerial show and dynamic choreography promise an incredible show.
Also appearing at the T&C area are Sebastien Valade, The Pirates of the Carabina, Long Shadow Stilt Theatre, Katmandu, Ezmerala’s Night Circus Rhythm Wave, Wookey Hole Circus and many more.
For the last five years the buzz has been growing around the Latin/salsa tent as a must-visit venue at Glastonbury.
This year, Glasto Latino is a field of its own, with a bigger tent, bigger stage, bigger dance floor, and surrounded by Latin food and drink stalls and bigger acts too.
Every night, after the main stages finish, there are world-famous Latin bands performing.
For the afternoons, they’re flying in one of the best Son bands from Santiago, Cuba’s old colonial capital and centre of music. They will be entertaining you between the ever-popular beginners’ salsa classes, offered once again by some of the UK’s top instructors.
The Latin line-up includes Roberto Pla’s Latin Ensemble, Gerardo Rosales Y Su Combo Mondial, Ondatrópica featuring Frente Cumbiero and Quantic, Ají Pa’ Tí and Alma De Cuba + Los Guanches.
The BBC have announced their all-star presenter line-up, with musical expertise of some of its biggest names to guide viewers and listeners every step of the way.
Glastonbury first-timer Chris Evans and festival veteran Steve Lamacq will be joined by Nick Grimshaw, Gemma Cairney, Lauren Laverne, Dermot O’Leary, Mark Radcliffe, Jo Whiley, Greg James, Craig Charles and others to form a team which will work together across TV, radio, red button and online.
The Kidz Field offers an extraordinary world of wonder and magic, with things to do and see, make or join in with, bounce on, jump off, climb up and fly in.
This year, they’ve got castles and aliens, bubbles and clowns, swingboats and roundabouts, explosions, magicians, stuntmen and technicolour nuns, with entry to all activities free.
UK garage duo Disclosure, baby-faced troubadour King Krule and Odd Future head honchos Tyler the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt, will provide some high-quality children’s entertainment.
As Britain moves closer to US-style ID policies, Glastonbury is also one of the few places where children are afforded the same entertainment as adults, so all in all, a good time to be had by all.
