Cult Liverpool label Baltic Records have just signed Korean art rocker duo Dead Buttons.
Dead Buttons are big stars in South Korea and the wider Asian market. Their music takes strong influence from American rock ‘n’ roll – with a strong contemporary feel. The band were spotted by label managers Jack Launer and David Pichilingi when they were over in Seoul visiting the acclaimed Zandari Festival. Jack Launer elaborates;
“we were immediately blown away by their live show and also the amazing noise they make for just 2 people. They had the audience like putty in their hands and whipped them up into a frenzy. Just our cup of tea. And we thought they would be perfect for a British audience.”
The first limited edition Dead Buttons EP that was released by Baltic sold out in 1 week. It featured the track ‘Witch’ – a single that was championed by John Kennedy, Simon Raymonde and Charlie Ashcroft. Dead Buttons are heading to the UK in March to promote their debut single on Baltic.
New single ’16-22′ (released 15th of April) is a graphic story of growing up in Seoul. A video will soon accompany the release.
Dead Buttons are Ji-Hyun and Kang-Hee. They will be playing live across the UK, Mainland Europe, America and Asia in 2016. Their album Some Kind of Youth will be released in late spring to coincide with the band’s performance at The Great Escape and Liverpool Sound City.
