It’s been a while since Marvel Studios announced anything about their upcoming projects, but now it has been confirmed that Golden Globe-winning actor Oscar Isaac has been cast in the lead role of Marvel Studio’s Moon Knight.
Moon Knight will be another series exclusive to Disney+, following elite soldier and mercenary Marc Spector, who decides to fight crime after he is saved and becomes the human avatar of the Egyptian Moon God, Khonshu.
Oscar Isaac is no stranger to the Marvel Universe, having already starred as the titular villain of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and as Spider-Man 2099 in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), which he is expected to reprise in the upcoming sequel in 2022.
It has also been reported that Marvel Studios are in talks with Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy) for the series showrunner.
Nothing else is known about the series at the time of writing, although rumours have indicated towards production starting in early 2021.
This news comes after confirmation of fellow Disney+ castings, such as Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk and newcomer Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel.
There still hasn’t been any news or confirmation on the casting of Kate Bishop in the upcoming Hawkeye series, although Academy Award –nominee, and fellow Spider-Verse actor, Hailee Steinfeld has been heavily rumoured for quite some time. Hopefully we will find out soon.
Production at Marvel Studios appear to be back in full swing after news that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has completed production alongside Shang-Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings. It has also been confirmed by Tom Holland that the still untitled Spider-Man 3 has begun filming in Atlanta.
It’s great to see more news from the MCU as they move forward. We are eagerly awaiting the beginning of Marvel’s Phase 4.
Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight will be released in 2022.
