WandaVision is the show chosen to launch Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has all the fans talking, as it is by its very nature left field.
The new TV series has landed on Disney+ with a whirlwind of questions… Like why has Wanda resurrected Vision to live in a warped version of American suburban bliss?
Episodes 1 and 2 are presented in black and white and feel like a lost episode of I Love Lucy. Viewers are promised a ride through American TV history into glorious technicolor and a springboard into a new direction for the MCU.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has spoken candidly about the questions it raises and how the show pays homage to the golden years of US TV sitcoms, which he grew up obsessed with.
He said: “Nickelodeon was what we kids watched during the day and at night they started showing old sitcoms. I loved TV and I watched far too much I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show and Bewitched.
“So I had a near unhealthy obsession with being raised by television and now I can take that one remaining childhood obsession and try to turn it into something productive.”
Kevin also spoke out about how Wanda appears to be the most powerful character in the MCU and that was something which needed exploring after Endgame.
He added: “Part of me was focussed on finishing Endgame, and the other part of me was, ‘What’s next?’
“To have something new to do when you work for the same place for 20 years is a gift. And ideas and concepts and dreams that we’d always had started pouring forth – things we’d wanted to do for a quite a long time.
“WandaVision is very much playing with the fact it’s a TV show, this is why we could not have made this into a movie.
“Big screen MCU has in a certain way become a genre all to itself now, and that’s something we play with in this series.
“If you look at the Infinity Saga, I don’t think any single character has gone through more trauma and pain than Wanda Maximoff.
“No character seems to be as powerful as Wanda, with a power set as ill defined and unexplored as Wanda. So it seemed exploring that would be worthwhile post-Endgame.
“Who else is aware of that power? Where did it come from? Did the Mind Stone unlock it?”
WandaVision is available to watch now on the Disney+ streaming platform.
