HBO are asking rappers to swap their lyrics about guns and bullets for rhymes about dragons and swords as they announce their intention to release a mixtape to support the premier of Game of Thrones season four.

The American cable network have drafted in heavy hitting artists like Outkast’s Big Boi and Reggaeton star Daddy Yankee among others to feature on the project.

According to HBO all the artists featuring on the tape are self confessed Game of Thrones super fans.

Marketing executive Lucinda Martinez said: “This is a unique opportunity to give fans great original music and an innovative way to highlight the electrifying ‘Game of Thrones’ series.”

The collaboration called Catch the Throne: The Mixtape will consist of 10 songs and HBO hope it will draw in an even wider demographic after figures were released that highlighted the shows failure to capture the African American and Hispanic audiences.

Where as dungeons and dragons might not be the usual motif you would expect to find in a rap song, featured artist Common said he felt the project broke new grounds in recognising the power of rap:

“Twenty years ago, Wu-Tang was breaking ground, nowadays, people are open to anything. There are no limitations to hip-hop culture.”

Catch the Throne: The Mixtape will be available on Soundcloud for download from March 7.
