We can’t wait for the Ghostbusters franchise to return this year, with the postponed release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, a sequel to the original film set to hit cinema screens over summer.
But it appears as though a journey in the old animated Ecto-1 may be just what’s needed in the meantime.
The official Ghostbusters Twitter shared an exciting announcement for 80s kids in particular – that the classic animated series The Real Ghostbusters… will soon be available to watch for free on their official YouTube channel soon.
It appears that classic episodes are set to be released on Saturdays. Much like the classic Saturday morning cartoon marathon, that we used to love so much.
If only one episode is dropped weekly, it’ll be some time before they’re finished as the original show had 140 episodes.
That’s not all though, the official Ghostbusters Twitter also revealed that the 90s spin-off, Extreme Ghostbusters, will also be released on YouTube, on Wednesdays.
For all those fans that grew up playing with the The Real Ghostbusters toys, the cartoon which was released in tandem with the Fire station HQ and various amazing and frightening figures is the most beloved part of the franchise outside of the original film.
The 1989 sequel is no where near as beloved as that first, despite having some very vocal fans. Most fans seem to agree that the cartoon did a better job of fleshing out the characters and expanding the universe than any live-action sequel.
Including making a bone fide star out of Slimer, who became a sidekick to the Ghostbusters and went out on ghoul busting calls, when he wasn’t eating!
