Brittas Empire star Chris Barrie has revealed that he is interested in revisiting his role as title character Gordon Brittas in the future.

In an exclusive interview with Purple Revolver, the actor said he has discussed a potential revival with one of the show’s writers.

“Recently, one of the writers in an email exchange I had with him, seemed very positive about wanting to get a Brittas Empire revival going called Lord Brittas in the 21st Century, which would be very interesting,” said Barrie.

“He wanted to get that off the ground but I don’t know where he is at with that right now.”

The Brittas Empire ran for seven series and 53 episodes – including two Christmas specials – between 1991 and 1997, airing on BBC One.

The sitcom starred Barrie as the well-meaning but incompetent manager of Whitbury New Town Leisure Centre, and broke the traditional BBC comedy mould with its often surreal humour and character deaths.

Barrie reprised his role as Gordon Brittas for the Sport Relief music video ‘Word Up’ by Little Mix earlier this year.

All seven series of The Brittas Empire are available to purchase on DVD.
