It seems some upcoming films are increasingly having their release dates pushed back between 2014 and 2016.
The Fifty Shades of Grey film was originally set to come out on August 1st 2014 but has now been moved to the more suitable date of Valentine’s Weekend 2015.
On the change, Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley said – “We see this movie as a global event.
“The strength of this book is really worldwide, so we want to be able to take advantage of women who are invariably on vacation with their families during the month of August in Europe.”
It is understood that the alternative arrangement was made to avoid competition from both Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and the FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile, other blockbusters have had their release dates changed as well because of a competitive year in 2015.
The sci-fi action sequel Independence Day 2 was initially slated for that year but will now arrive in cinemas on July 1st 2016, twenty years since the release of the original film.
With Star Wars: Episode VII now scheduled for December 18th 2015, that decision has enabled other potential blockbusters to come out in the summer.
Matthew Vaughan’s The Secret Service has transferred from late 2014 to March 6th 2015.
Additionally, the Fantastic Four reboot is moved back three months to June 19th while the Assassin’s Creed film will now be released on August 7th.
