Golden Globe winner and Sex in the City star Kim Cattrall comes from our own beloved Scouse city; born in Mossley Hill.
When she was 3 months old, her parents – secretary Gladys Shane and construction engineer Dennis Cattrall – emigrated to Canada.
She returned to Liverpool back in October 2010 to perform as Cleopatra in Playhouse Theatre in the production of Antony and Cleopatra. The show was revived in September 2012, with Cattrall putting her Egyptian headdress on for another 22 nights.
The 58 year old actress is a Liverpool FC supporter, and in November 2014 she came back to visit Anfeild to cheer on The Reds.
She expressed “I think it’s the greatest football club in the world. I really have been touched by many things in my life but to stand there with my scarf outstretched and to join in the chorus of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, I had tears running down my cheeks.”
During that trip, Cattrall accepted an Icon award from Liverpool red carpet event, Collective Honours Award Show, for her extensive television, movie and theatre career.
She described the award as “over whelming – humbling too” and told Grazia, “I feel very connected to Liverpool.”
Cattrall’s Twitter bio states “Liverpool-born, Canadian-bred New Yorker”, and she has frequently interacted with iconic Liverpool account Scouse Bird Problems.
Her fondness for Liverpool also showed in a Twitter spat she had with Mayor Joe Anderson over the sale of Sefton Park Meadows, branding the move as “a real blow to Liverpool”.
A few months prior, the actress had been retweeting campaigners asking to help raise awareness over the proposal to build on the meadows to raise money to fund services.
In response to the decision to build on Sefton Park, Cattrall said, “I love Sefton Park. I was lucky enough to grow up playing there. Sefton Park was a refuge for my mother during her childhood years. When I first told her about it she said ‘that’s just not right, this is the people’s land’ and I believe that as well.
“It’s so beautiful and it gives people a place to contemplate and play… I’m very disappointed that the mayor has made the decisions that he has.”
Her love for Liverpool and its people is very clear, even after living in New York for the past 40 years.
To finish, let us leave you with Cattrall’s explanation of her relationship with the city:
“While I didn’t spend the totality of my childhood in this great city, I was raised by parents and grandparents who are quintessentially Scouse. Liverpool is in my blood.”
