The first True Romance festival was held at the Safari Inn in Burbank to pay homage to the cult classic.

The festival ran over two days with an audience of 300 fans turning up from around the world in order to show their appreciation for the film. Fans flocked from countries like Canada and Italy to be part of the event.

The film was first released in 1993 and was a creation of Quentin Tarantino. It was directed by Tony Scott and starred Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette.

Over the course of the two day festival, fans were treated to competitions including a costume contest, a who’s the biggest fan contest, which was won by Desiree Source due to her angel and heart tattoo and an outdoor showing of the film in front of the pool.

The festival started with a tribute to cast members of the film who have passed away including Chris Penn and Gandolfini.

There was also a Q&A after the screening so fans could ask members of the cast questions they’d always wanted to know. Members of the panel included Bronson Pinchot who played Elliot Blitzer and Paul Bates who played Marty.

And although Christian Slater could not attend the event due to filming, his father, Tom Slater, attended for him.

Arquette also committed to attending the event but also had to cancel due to filming but instead is auctioning off a date with herself with all of the earnings going to her charity givelove.org. The winning bid was $3,500.

The festival was the result of friends Sean Healy and Dan Storm who threw a ‘True Romance’ themed pool party last May for an audience of 30 people and now this year with a turn out of 300 fans, it can only get bigger and better every year for the cult classic fans.
