Donald Glover has been named as the favourite to play Spider-Man in Marvel Studios’ cinematic universe.

Bookmaker Paddy Power is offering odds of 5/2 for the Community star to take on the role of the iconic comic book hero.

If Paddy’s Spider Sense proves accurate on this one, it will not be the first time we have seen a black Spider-Man.

Marvel Comics introduced Miles Morales as an African-American version of the webslinger after killing off Peter Parker in a 2011 storyline.

The character’s creators, writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli, drew inspiration from Glover when devising Miles’s physical appearance, as well as US president Barack Obama.

It seemed only natural when Glover provided the voice of Miles in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon series last year. Could he go on to become the live action version as well?

Paddy names Whiplash actor Miles Teller as second-favourite for the role, with odds of 6/1, followed by The Hunger Games’ Josh Hutcherson at 8/1.

The bookmaker is also offering odds of 4/1 for Marvel and Fox to announce that either the X-Men or the Fantastic Four are joining the Marvel Cinematic universe by 2020, which is well worth a punt.

Marvel announced earlier this month that it has reached a deal with Sony Pictures to bring Spider-Man home, with subsequent reports indicating that Andrew Garfield is unlikely to reprise his role from the Amazing Spider-Man movies.
