Actor and singer Austin Butler has been chosen to play Elvis Presley in a new film after a competitive casting contest.
Warner Bros made its decision, dashing the hopes of others like Harry Styles, Ansel Elgrot and Miles Teller who had been in the running to land the role.
Butler posted word of his big role to Instagram, quoting from Presley’s song Love Me Tender , saying: “You have made my life complete, and I love you so.”
This seems to be a good year for the 27 years old American actor who has alswo been cast also for the Tarantino’s new movie Once Upon a Time.
The young star can also be seen in director Jim Jarmusch’s zombie movie “The Dead Don’t Die” as Jack, one of the “hipsters from Cleveland.”
The film will be directed by Baz Luhrmann, Oscar-nominated for Moulin Rouge! and The Great Gatsby.
The filmmaker commented on Butler’s selection for the role by saying: “I knew I couldn’t make this film if the casting wasn’t absolutely right, and we searched thoroughly for an actor with the ability to evoke the singular natural movement and vocal qualities of this peerless star, but also the inner vulnerability of the artist.
“Through a journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops, I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world’s most iconic musical figures.”
The film explores life of The King of Rock and Roll, including his complicated relationship with his manager Colonel Tom Parker, who will be played by Tom Hanks.
The film will go into production start early next year with the action being shot in Queensland, Australia.
