Here are some of the main talking points from this special Gamescom edition of The Week in Gaming.
Monday 3rd August
Vega is a playable Street Fighter V character. He now has two fighting styles, battling with his trademark claw and the ability to sheath it for grabbing moves. Interestingly once opponents knock the claw out of his hands it cannot be picked up meaning players must know how to fight without it.
Tuesday 4th August
During Microsoft’s Gamescom press conference Remedy Studios announced Quantum Brake, the time manipulating Xbox One-exclusive, will be released 5 April 2016. The game’s cast includes; Shawn Ashmore, Dominic Monaghan, Lance Reddick and recently confirmed Aiden Gillen. Quantum Brake mixes in-game action with a TV programme running alongside the plot.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PC version will now launch on the same date, 1 September 2015, as all console versions. Konami has now detailed PC specifications require; 8GB of RAM and a 3.60GHz processor – or better.
Bungie has hired veteran voice actor Nolan North to replace Peter Dinklage as the voice of Ghost, the player’s robot companion, in Destiny: The Taken King. North has re-recorded all of Dinklage’s previous dialogue as well as additional material for the expansion. Furthermore Bungie confirmed existing sets of Legendary armour and level weapons will not be receive any further upgrades.
Wednesday 5th August
As part of their Gamescom press conference Nintendo announced The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes, 3DS exclusive spin-off, will release in Europe 23 October 2015. The company also revealed the WiiU digital download exclusive Project Zero shall be available 30 October 2015. A trial version, featuring the game’s first two chapters, will be live on the same day with an option to download the full, paid version.
As promised 2K showcased Mafia 3, via the official YouTube channel, revealed the game will be set in a re-imagined New Oreleans in 1963. The plot focuses on Lincoln Clay, a disenfranchised Vietnam veteran.
In other big Gamescom news Bandai Namco publicised Dark Souls III along with 18 minute off-screen gameplay video.
During EA’s Gamescom Dice showcased Star Wars: Battlefront’s Fighter Squadron, an aerial combat mode. Footage revealed dogfights between X-Wings and TIE-Fighters. The video also included; The Millennium Falcon, Boba Fett’s Slave I and an Imperial Shuttle.
Thursday 6th August
According to a new GAME retail listing both seasons of Telltale’s The Walking Dead is heading to WiiU. Release date 30 October 2015 priced £29.99.
Konami has unveiled a 30 minute video detailing in-depth information about Metal Gear Solid V’s Mother Base such as; managing Diamond Dog soldiers, the Fulton Recovery Device, advantages and disadvantages of dynamic weather, base expansions and base invasions. With eight weeks left till the game hits the shelves, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 has a new art style.
Skaters and scenery now appear cell-shaded. This new direction may be a possible response to the outcries of outdated visuals when the game debuted back in June.
Bethesda has confirmed Fallout 4 will omit level capping and players will be able to continue exploring the post-apocalyptic world long after the main campaign has concluded.
Friday 7th August
Assassin Creed’s secondary protagonist Evie Fry, Jacob’s twin sister, has the ability to become invisible in order to act even stealthier during missions. This was seen during a new gameplay video for the upcoming instalment to the Creed franchise, set in Victorian London.
Ori and the Blind Forest is set to receive a Definitive Edition for Xbox One and PC due later this year.
Avalanche Studios revealed a new story trailer for Mad Max. The company released the following recommended specifications for Mad Max on PC; OS: 64 bit: Win 7 SP1, Win 8.1, Processor: Intel Core i7-3770, 3.4 GHz or AMD FX-8350, 4.0 GHz, Memory: 8 GB RAM, Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (3 GB Memory or higher) or AMD Radeon HD 7970 (3 GB Memory or higher), DirectX: Version 11 and Hard Drive: 32 GB available space. Mad Max will be released 1 September 2015.
