During Sony’s PlayStation 5 reveal event, fans of Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man series were treated to a first look at the newest instalment of the web-slinging franchise, Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Marvel’s Spider-Man was released for PS4 and quickly became a firm favourite for fans of Spidey, with its impressive gameplay, graphics, narrative and characterisation. It was praised highly by critics too, saying it “raised the bar for one of the world’s most beloved heroes”.
The trailer for the new game reveals that players will finally get to suit up as Miles Morales, the young successor to Peter Parker, who was teased as the next protector of New York in the first game.
Miles was first introduced in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics in 2011 as the character to take over as Spider-Man, after the death of Peter Parker. The fan favourite character has had a few brief appearances in animated series and games, before going on to headline the fantastic Oscar-winning movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018).
The trailer doesn’t show a lot of the story, but gives players a taste of the gameplay on offer, such as Miles comic accurate costume, as well as his unique powers: Venom Shock and camouflaging, which look amazing!
The web-slinging is the highlight of most open-world Spider-Man games, and this one looks no different, with Miles showing off some spectacular moves that look subtly different to what’s come before.
We also get to see when the game is set, with the surroundings covered in snow, giving this something that visually separates it from the first game, as well as most other superhero games.
Whether players will get to be Peter Parker again remains to be seen, as there has been no official confirmation on whether this is a spin-off or the official sequel to the PS4 masterpiece.
Among the other reveals during the PS5 event were the confirmation of more brand new titles, including Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Oddworld: Soulstorm, Gran Turismo 7 and Horizon: Forbidden West, among many others.
The future of gaming has so much for us to look forward to, and we can’t wait!
