Bristol’s iconic boat bar and live music haunt Thekla has been shortlisted for the 2011 NME’s Best Small Venue Award.

DHP Group are proud to announce their Bristol venue Thekla has won the nomination for Best Small Venue in the South West in the annual NME competition.

The search aims to highlight how vital small venues are to bands and the UK’s music scene and was launched by Friendly Fires.

Having beaten off stiff competition from 40 other venues in the country to reach the final stages of the search, the Thekla is now on the shortlist to win the nationwide title.

A panel of industry insiders including former Undertones frontman and head of the UK Music organisation, Feargal Sharkey, Festival Republic boss Melvin Benn, Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens and Friendly Fires will spend the next few days judging the competition.

Thekla, which has been targeted by Bristol graf head Banksy (see 2nd pic), plays host to the best new music talent coming through the city and was recently the hub of the Dot To Dot festival.
