Liverpool’s only dry-bar and café The Brink is seeking sponsorship to support its football club.

Run by The Brink’s Events Manager David Barnicle, ‘Brink FC’ was established in 2013 and is made up of members of the recovery community from around the city.

The popular social hub, located on Parr Street, arranges 11-a-side matches against other recovery related organisations throughout the North West and occasionally further afield, and now needs to find a sponsor in order to continue to help tackle addiction.

David said: “Our football team is an important part of who we are as a recovery organisation as it offers those who have struggled, or are struggling with addiction a real sense of community and support from their teammates.

“We train every Saturday from 11am-12pm at The Pitz Power League, and when we play against other teams we like to invite them to The Brink for a bite to eat afterwards if we can. Sponsorship would really help us to continue this tradition alongside funding for our football kits and any travel costs.”

The Brink is the flagship social enterprise of national charity Action on Addiction and offers a refuge of advice, community and friendship for those at every stage of recovery.

As well as offering advice and support to those suffering from alcohol and drug addiction, The Brink encourages general well-being with its variety of activities and workshops as well as serving up nourishing smoothies and juices which accompany a menu built on fresh produce from local suppliers.

David added: “Our main goal is to provide an environment that focuses on recovery and wellbeing. For those in the team it represents a lot more than just the sport, as mixing alongside mainstream society and taking part in a such a traditional activity helps to breakdown any stigmatisation and integrate them with the rest of their city.”
