London singer-songwriter Angel Constantine is being hailed as the ‘next’ Amy Winehouse after releasing her critically-acclaimed debut single.

Reviewers have compared artist Angel to the Back to Black diva with her “eclectic mix” of musical styles and “velvet” voice.

The unsigned singer says she is delighted to be compared to Winehouse, whom she cites as a ‘major’ influence.

Angel, from Wood Green, North London, said: “It’s a great accolade to be compared to Amy as she is such a talented and varied singer.

“She is definitely a major inspiration to me, as are other greats such as James Brown, Michael Jackson and Dusty Springfield.

“Jackson’s ‘Off The Wall’ was the first album I ever bought, but though each of these artists have been part of my musical education, I have developed my own sound which is like nothing else out there at the moment.”

She has also found time to collaborate with other musicians including, in 2006, Atlantic Records artist DG Yola. Their track, You and Me received national airplay on Tim Westwood’s Radio 1 show.

Angel has been equally active outside of the studio, frequently gigging, not only across London and the UK, but also in Greece and America.

The artist, who is of Greek and Egyptian decent, said: “This is the first year I’ve been on stage singing my own songs, but I’ve been singing everyone else’s hits for years – in English, Greek and Arabic!”

Though Angel has been performing live for the last seven years, her connections with the entertainment industry go back even further.

Her first taste of fame came at the tender age of 14 when she managed to secure work experience with lauded actors Peter O’Toole and Harvey Keitel.
