Trattoria 51 is helping Liverpool’s runners to prepare for upcoming races as part of Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon weekend (May 19 – 20).

With studies showing that ‘carb-loading’ is an efficient method of preparation ahead of a long-distance run, the Old Hall Street eatery is encouraging race goers to stock up on the food group courtesy of its fresh, artisan pasta menu.

The city’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon will see thousands of people take to the streets of Liverpool to tackle a 26-mile route, with runners advised to consume around 600 grams of carbohydrates prior to taking part in the race, which can be found in 2400 grams of pasta.

Restauranteur Attilio Sergi said: “Year on year, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon is a hugely popular occasion in the Liverpool calendar and it’s great to see so many runners get involved in the two-day event.

“Ahead of a big race, partakers are advised to consume considerably more carbohydrates, which is beneficial for reducing muscle fatigue in long-distance sporting events and keeping energy levels consistent. With a classic Italian menu full of classic pasta dishes and deliciously authentic pizzas, we’re helping runners to get on their marks, get set and go with our carb-heavy offerings to ensure they get to the finish line on time.”

Trattoria 51 also offers gluten-free alternatives to 95% of its menu items, meaning that runners that suffer from food intolerances can still benefit from a much-needed carb intake in the form of delicious Italian cuisine.

Attilio added: “Of course, here at Trattoria 51, we are also firm believers in refuelling after the race, too, and look forward to welcoming runners and their friends and families to the restaurant once their challenge is completed. What’s more, we’ll be offering all participants a complimentary glass of fizz with their post-race refuel.”

Marathon runners will be offered a complementary glass of Prosecco with any main-meal when showing their Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon medal.
