Liverpool’s award-winning dry bar and café The Brink is set to welcome a renowned addiction therapist and author this month.
The Parr Street venue, which is the first of its kind in the UK, will welcome Christopher Burn on Monday, March 21 for an evening titled ‘How Poetry Changed My Life and Helped My Recovery’.
In addition to enjoying an inspirational talk, guests will be given the chance to take part in an interactive session to produce their own poetry.
Events Manager at The Brink David Barnicle said: “We are thrilled to see the arrival of the highly talented and inspirational Christopher Burn this month. The team and many of our customers are certainly fans of his work, and we look forward to hearing all about his personal journey.
“As a key figure in the recovery community, Christopher will offer a refreshing insight into his positive life transformation after finding solace in poetry. In a bid to help motivate others, Christopher will also be heading a poetry making practical exercise for all of our guests who wish to get involved.”
After suffering with addiction in the past, Christopher trained as an addiction therapist in 2002 and now specialises in gambling therapy at Castle Craig rehab clinic near Edinburgh.
On the evening, Christopher’s newest book ‘Poetry Changes Lives’, which comprises a page a day of history, poetry and inspiration, will be on sale.
David added: “In addition to the forthcoming poetry event, we also hold open mic sessions every Thursday, whereby the first instalment of the month, known as Brink Speakers, is specific to poetry.
“Similarly to Christopher, we believe that expressing yourself through creative mediums such as poetry can be so beneficial in the aiding of recovery. It’s wonderful to host a platform in which our guests, whether they are members of the recovery community or otherwise, can do so.”
‘How Poetry Changed My Life and Helped My Recovery’ will take place on Monday, March 21 from 7:30pm. Admission is free.
