The beautiful princess Leia has left Alderaan and gone to the great heavens above, to a galaxy far, far away. We can all feel it. In honour of the fiery, wisdom filled Carrie Fisher, we’re sharing some boss photos from a 1983 beach photo shoot that shows the lovely, playful side of Star Wars. RIP Princess Leia.
Carrie Fisher was asked about what she thought of rumours that Disney would be retiring ‘slave Leia’ merchandise depicting her in a gold bikini, she replied: “I think it’s stupid.
“The father who flipped out about it, “What am I going to tell my kid about why she’s in that outfit?” Tell them that a giant slug captured me and forced me to wear that stupid outfit, and then I killed him because I didn’t like it. And then I took it off. Backstage.” she retorted.
A host of old school cool pics re-emerged from the original Star Wars trilogy’s promotional run. Included were a set of photos of Fisher frolicking around on the beach in the gold bikini for Rolling Stone. Take some time to revel in these photos and remember a woman and character that embodied both captivating beauty and unrelenting strength.
More women like her will certainly be needed if we’re going to survive the remainder of our time in this world.
It’s always fun to look back on old photo shoots such as this, seeing the playful side of Star Wars and Fisher looking happy and joyful is a great sight to behold after news of her passing. There are many great ways to remember her, this is just one of them.
Thankfully we’ll get one more galactic appearance from her in Star Wars Episode VIII, she’ll be dearly missed.
RIP Carrie Fisher, may the force be with you, always.
