Pussy Riot vegan demands supported by Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone has written a letter to President Vladimir Putin asking for the assurance that Maria Alekhina, a member of Pussy Riot and a vegan who has been imprisoned, ‘will have access to vegan foods.’

In her letter the Clueless star wrote ‘I’m sure you can agree that everyone has the right to show compassion and refrain from hurting animals by being vegan.’

Pussy Riot have focused on free speech and a fair justice system.

The two-year prison sentence was handed down to punk rock band Pussy Riot for a provocative protest inside a Moscow cathedral.

Three members of Russian punk band Pussy Riot have been jailed for two years after staging an anti-Vladimir Putin protest in a Moscow cathedral.

Judge Marina Syrova convicted the women of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, sid they had “crudely undermined social order”.

Judge Syrova said Maria Alyokhina, 24, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 29, had offended the feelings of Orthodox believers and shown a “complete lack of respect”.
