Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding has slated former host of Never Mind the Buzzcocks Simon Amstell for turning the show into a cruel piss take of celebrity guests.
“The problem is, I think Amstell ruined it for everyone. Everyone thinks they’ll get ripped to shreds.”
Fielding supports this claim saying that Mel B had to be coaxed onto the show after hours of negotiations to quell her fears. He said: “She was terrified, like we were going to really rib into her.”
The show had become famous for Amstell’s cutting jibes, which infamously led to Ordinary Boy’s singer Preston walking off the set halfway through a recording in 2007.
Noel thinks the show is “cosier” now the curly haired comedian has vacated the hot seat.
A number of high profile celebrities have taken the mantle as guest judges in Amstell’s place, who took over the custodial role after Mark Lamarr jumped ship in 2005.
One of the best celebrity installations according to Fielding is this week’s celebrity judge, national icon and Children in Need host Terry Wogan.
Noel Said: “He was definitely the best Host we have had.”
“He shook everyone’s hand, he knew everyone’s name. It was pretty mind blowing actually.”
