Liverpool promoters Fuel For Fire have come up with another delightfully eccentric treat by bringing Jeffrey Lewis to the Static Gallery for a showcase this Saturday and you can win tickets by entering their comic art contest.

Born Jeffrey Lightning Lewis in New York City, November 1975 he grew up with loving Beatnik parents in an East 9th St tenement. Having no television in the household, young Jeff became a comic book fanatic before he even knew how to read.

Jeff now leads a double-life, as both a comic book writer/artist and a musician (or is that a triple-life?). His band Jeffrey Lewis & The Junkyard also has a schizophrenic existence, ranging between contemplative folk narratives and distortion-fueled garage rock.

Live shows incorporate “low budget videos,” Jeff’s large illustrations displayed to accompany certain songs, such as Jeff’s educational multi-part “History of Communism” or flights of fancy like “The Creeping Brain.”

Jeff was signed to Rough Trade Records in 2001 and has since released five albums, in addition to touring the world and performing with Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Devendra Banhart, Black Dice, Thurston Moore, The Fall, The Vaselines, Beth Orton, Frank Black, The Fiery Furnaces, Daniel Johnston and Scout Niblett among others.

In recognition of Jeff’s upcoming showcase at Static gallery on July 30th, FFF will be holding a drawing competition with the best pieces will be showcased during the event. The top 5 pieces will receive a pair of free tickets to the show and get the chance to meet Jeff himself.
