At this year’s Thought Bubble comic con, we caught up with Haylestorm Comics’ dynamic duo Danny Hayles and Gareth Wood to try and find out the mysteries of Atlantis and what it takes to make it in the comic industry.
The pair admitted: “Getting into the industry is not an easy task and we had our own ideas we wanted to get out there.”
They decided to take things into their own hands when working on getting their creations noticed. Instead of waiting for someone in the industry to pick up one of their ideas the pair decided to create Dark House and do it themselves.
“We’re fans of the medium, so crafting our own label means that we can enjoy creating our own projects and working with other creators, trying new things, exchanging ideas and mixing styles.”
The Dark House label showcases unsung writers and artists in an anthology compiled by Danny and Gareth.
“One of the best parts of having creators contribute to our books is that we get to view lots of cool stories and art!”
Apart from Dark House, the duo are also working on Haylestorm’s lead title Atlantis. Taking a look at love, loss and what it means to a twenty first century human, the story focuses around the sudden return of Atlantis and the emergence of a new superpower with an unknown agenda.
Shrouded in mystery and intrigue, fans are eager to know what Gareth has install for the Atlantis.
“We don’t want to reveal too much about where Atlantis is going at this point, but the Atlantians themselves are a formidable advisory and the world is going to have to brace itself for some dark days ahead.”
Seen as a modern take on a classic tale in both story and art, Atlantis is a standout comic of last year and we can expect the next hotly anticipated installment at some point in the near future.
As well as an Atlantis follow up the pair are also working on the Dark House anthology and some secret projects which are to be revealed later in the year.

“2014 is going to be a big year for Haylestom comics. We have some other projects which we have under wraps for now, but We will, of course, be cruising the comic book scene with conventions up and down the country throughout the year.”
