George Clooney may be an unexpected choice of cover for a magazine’s art issue, but for December’s W magazine, that’s exactly what they’ve done.
With Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama as art director, the pictures feature her signature polka dots as the black and white set in unique photographs of the actor.
The 84-year-old artist is famed for her repetitive use of the trademark polka dots, after first using them in the late 60s painted on naked models.
Clooney also wears a customized polka dot suit designed by Kusama in the pictures by Australian photographer Emma Summerton.
The issue also features images created in collaboration with Tracey Emin, Karen Kilimnik, Marilyn Minter, and Catherine Opie.
In the interview, Clooney talks of his new film, The Monuments Men, an upcoming dramedy set in WWII.
Based on real life events and characters, a group of art enthusiasts attempt to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves.
Clooney plays George L. Stout, an American art conservation specialist and museum director.
The Monuments Men also stars Matt Damon, Jean Dujardin, John Goodman, Bill Murray and Hugh Bonneville and is scheduled for release February 2014.
