This is a deep dive for fans of music nostalgia and Liverpool. From covering everything past to present, and mainstream to alternative, we’ll be diving in deep.
Starting with The Real People, we’ll be exploring their history and the impact they’ve had on the music culture in Liverpool.
Bootle Rockers The Real People were first formed in 1986 by brothers Chris and Tony Griffiths. Their debut, self-titled album was released in 1991 which included hits like “Open Up Your Mind,” “Window Pane,” and “The Truth.”
This album launched the beginning of their journey as a band, where they went from performing at local clubs to touring as support acts for famous artists like David Bowie, Simple Minds and the Inspiral Carpets, throughout the 90s.
They have produced a total of nine albums over their career, but are also well known for helping Manchester’s Oasis breakthrough and blossom into the Britpop legends we now know.
Noel Gallagher first reached out to Tony Griffiths in 1993 for help with recording a few demos to send to professional record companies.
Together they produced eight demos at Griffiths eight-track studio on Dock Road in Liverpool. This led to Oasis’s first record deal.
The Gallagher’s have since credited the band to some of their tracks and Liam Gallagher has shown his appreciation in 2017 by tweeting: “You wanna know how I feel on a daily basis 24/7 listen to that tune by the real people dream on brothers n sisters LG x”.
Where are they now?
The band are still together and continue to perform and produce music. They have played at different cities all over the country this year and fans can see them in a hometown gig soon!
