Joining the likes of Paul Weller, Oasis and Sir Paul McCartney, the award comes 21 years after their debut release Leisure.

Blur led the Britpop scene in 1995, and the band won numerous Brit awards for their Parklife album including Best Band, Best Album and Best Single.

The band ‘split up’ in 2003 after their seventh studio album Think Tank and each member embarked on their own projects including Graham Coxon’s solo career and Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz.

However they reformed for a series of performances at Hyde Park in 2009 much to their fans’ delight.

The ceremony will be held in February at the O2 arena in London. There is no comment as to whether Blur will perform on the night.

The full list of Brit Award nominees is said to be released on January 12th.
