Tomorrow sees Liverpool John Moores University install a Pop-Up Lab at Baltic Creative showcasing a range of technology and digital fabrication demonstrations in action.

The event will feature 3D printers, Laser Cutters and 3D scanners, and is an opportunity to ‘meet the makers’ and discuss opportunities for research, collaboration and play.

The first pop-up Fab Lab will kick-start a series of events aimed at demystifying the technology behind the digital fabrication revolution.

People are invited to drop into Baltic Creative throughout the day to explore the Fab Lab and attend The Fab Social – an informal gathering to meet and chat with like-minded people.

Lol Baker, 3D Fabrication Teaching Staff at LJMU explains: “Fab Lab Liverpool is a place for people to make almost anything.

“It is equipped with the digital fabrication tools and technologies for 3D scanning and printing, laser cutting, vinyl plotting, 3D modeling, CAD, electronic prototyping and programming.

“Fab Lab Liverpool builds on the experiences of the global Fab Lab network as well as the research and technical expertise of Liverpool John Moores University.

“The initiative underpins LJMU’s commitment to support the local, national, and global economy by building opportunities for collaborative knowledge and technology exchange.”

The flagship Digital Fabrication Laboratory is a physical space located in the School of Art and Design at LJMU and provides access to the tools and knowledge to educate, innovate and invent using technology and digital fabrication.

Managing Director of Baltic Creative, Mark Lawler advocates bringing the technology out of the classroom and into the public domain;

“Baltic Creative is keen to support Creative and Digital Industries in any way we can. The series of Fab Lab events in partnership with LJMU will bring the very latest tech equipment into the heart of the Baltic Triangle, Liverpool’s cluster of Creative and Digital Businesses.

“Baltic Creative and LJMU have worked closely to develop the series and we hope Baltic Triangle businesses will explore the benefits these technologies can bring to their businesses.”
