Comedy legend Harold Ramis is to receive a posthumous tribute from the town he made famous as the backdrop for Groundhog Day.

The Stripes star will be forever remembered for his tale of eternal return with his Ghostbusters pal Bill Murray living the same day over and over again.

Now the Chicago suburb where Harold filmed Groundhog Day is set to honour the late director by naming a cinema screen after him.

During the annual Woodstock Groundhog Days festival, an auditorium at a movie theater in Woodstock will be named after the Animal House and Caddyshack director.

Rick Bellairs is on the Woodstock Groundhog Days Committee and says the suburb’s town square is recognizable around the world because of Ramis.

He said Ramis was a “gracious and genuine guy.”

The 1993 movie starred Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell. Ramis died last year at age 69 at his suburban Chicago home after suffering from an autoimmune disease.
