Black is a synonym for winter as white is for summer.
Sure, this makes perfect sense in terms of keeping cool and the practicalities however, are people sailing too closely to the breeze (pun intended) when it comes to what they wear this summer?
Designers have now acknowledged some of us prefer to keep it safe and simple.
Like a true friend, you know the colour is always there for you. It’s flattering, alluring and timeless regardless of size or shape.
That’s not to say you have to turn your back on colour all together for the bolder amongst us. Adding statement pieces that delve into a single intensity is a great way to incorporate colour.
But for now it appears the way to make the biggest impact this spring is to wear black!
The Little Black Dress
The LBD is vintage – introduced by Coco Channel in the 1920’s it has made an appearance on the cat walk ever since. Although very versatile the key to wearing this flattering investment piece during the summer is material! Light and comfortable fabrics such as lace and satin are a wonderful subtle approach.
The Leather Midi Skirt
Not your traditional choice of wardrobe during the sunny season, the black leather midi skirt can be paired with a monochrome crop top to create a more airy feel. Finish with a pair of chunky sandals and sunglasses.
Jumpsuit
The jumpsuit is perfect for backyard BBQs, casual Fridays, as a beach cover-up, or even for date night. Teamed with a pair of statement heels and a round clutch it’s flirty without trying too hard.
Floral print
We all love the femininity of floral, so what better way to break up the black. Last year, it was all about delicate pastels. This time around, bright blooms, and pale primroses clung to vibrant backdrops.
