The A/W 14 catwalks were awash with fresh faces, the ‘no make up’ make up look was everywhere.
Is this a realistic trend? Would you dare to bare?
A key component ran throughout: the bare lip.
I suspect that this is the most achievable feature of a ‘no make up’ look.
I would much rather be seen without lipstick as to be seen without mascara or eye liner! If done well, it can be very chic, especially paired with a soft sexy eye in the evening.
Here are my expert tips for rocking a naked lip:
1. Exfoliate. Using a home made sugar scrub (1 tsp. Brown sugar mixed with 1 tsp. Olive oil and a drop of honey), gently massage onto lips 3-4 times a week. This will remove dry, chapped skin that we are all so very prone to in the cold weather months.
2. Moisturise. Apply a lip balm of your choice at least twice a day. Make it part of your skin care ritual, morning and night. I love good old Vaseline with Cocoa Butter in the little tin.
3. Tint. Dab on a pale matte lip colour using your fingers, and always blot to remove any shine. The effect should look like a natural lip, not product. Try MAC Lipstick in Myth.
4. Play. Make up your eyes, or just add concealer and mascara. The choice is yours. I personally love this look with a softly rimmed eye and tons of mascara. Define cheekbones with a sculpting powder and a light dusting of a nude blusher to finish.
