Smokey, angular, bold cat eyes are great but recently we have seen celebrities such as Jessica Alba and Kate Bosworth bearing the more natural look, subtle and subdued. But, as Calvin Klein once said, “… it takes make up to look natural.”
Here are 5 tips for the more natural look (with make-up).
Skin
Your weapon will depend on how much coverage you need. Those of us who have an unblemished complex BB creams are extremely lucky. Decléor Hydra Floral Multi-Protection BB Cream 24hr Moisture Activator (£29) is perfect as it hydrates even skin tone, mattifies and covers redness.
Need a little more coverage? There’s Bare Minerals bareSkin® Pure Brightening Serum Foundation SPF20 (£26). Applying lightly with your pinkie will enable you to get the coverage with a more natural look.
Cheeks
The key is to ensure your cheeks match the same pallet as your lips. Professional makeup artist Michelle Dittrich advises going for a cream to ensure the unpowered, no make-up look; such as Le Blush Creme 63 Revelation bu Channel (£30). And remember – only put blush where you flush.
Eyes
Eyes either make or break this look.
The tip: if you’re pale, avoid something with warmer undertones such as red, orange and yellow pigments. Those with an olive complexion should steer clear of greys and ash at all costs. We love Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette (£23).
Don’t forget to add highlighter to the inside of the eye for a wider, less lethargic look. Mascara is a must.
Lips
It’s important to go for a natural shade and shimmer. Peach is perfect. Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Whole Lotta Honey (£17) is an intense motorising colouring balm, leaving a glossy finish. Lightly dab foundation before lipstick, then blot to create a less over-powering look.
Glow
Our secret to creating the Brazilian beauty Gisele au natural look: Bobbi Brown Brightening Finishing Powder (£40). It instantly illuminates and gives skin a healthy-looking glow. It is infused with a skin-brightening blend of Mulberry, Grape and Scutellaria extracts.
Follow with a few dabs of highlighter under your brow and in the corners of your eyes for this understated look.
