The man from Gallifrey is back and The Doctor has firmly won his place as icon for all things inherently British.

So as the time travelling alien arrives on our screens for a 12th incarnation, we catch a glimpse of what’s to come as Peter Capaldi poses for his first portrait as Doctor Who.

Capaldi’s outfit was revealed as he was filming for the first episode continued in the Welsh capital of Cardiff.

This outfit will be his signature look and will shape his character as the 12th Doctor so the pressure was on to get it right.

Steven Moffat has said that the actor shopped predominately for himself, which he did, at the British Boot Company.

The Doctor’s Loake brogue boots, are being sold at the London based company for £215.

Sales rocketed bringing in tourists in from all over Europe. Nick “The Boot” Roumana, whose grandfather opened the shop in 1951, was quoted to say;

“We get a lot of visitors from France Germany, all over, they love the fact that the shop and the boots we sell in it are truly and archetypally English.”

The outfit as a whole has a feel of Tim Roth mixed with magician, pure British magic.
The simple black cardigan is £150 from John Smedley.

The search for the makers of the shirt has been on-going ever since the outfit was revealed, yet a small shop in London’s fashionable west end had tweeted about supplying a shirt for ‘a certain doctor’, but nobody noticed. Could that the shirt be made by Budd Shirtmakers?

The origins of the coat so far also remain a mystery and although the coat has the cut and style of a Crombie, Crombie has come forward and said it wasn’t them, yet the coat company (Tailors?) have made several other coats for the TARDIS’ previous owners.

The real tailor behind the coat is yet to be confirmed, but at the centre of the circle of speculation is old time friend of Capaldi’s, Sir Paul Smith, yet they too have denied making this marvellous coat, as the speculation grows so does our eagerness for show to be back on our screens.

The boots, the shirt, the cardigan and the Crombie style coat created our 12th doctor. His alien fighting uniform is essentially British. We can expect to see The Doctor back on our screens in the latter part of 2014.

Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, said: “Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is officially recorded in history with the unveiling of his new costume. It’s sharp, smart and stylish – The Twelfth Time Lord means business.”
