Oscar de la Renta passes away age 82

The world of fashion is all about clashes and difference of opinion; it also however possesses a strong sense of unity. This was demonstrated on Monday by lovers of fashion across the globe coming together to pay tribute to the passing of world renowned designer, Oscar de la Renta.

De la Renta was a household name in the fashion industry passed away to cancer in his New York based home, aged 82 on Monday morning.

The high end designer will forever be remembered for his dresses ball gowns, used for the grandest events from weddings to red carpets – he famously believed that women should look elegant, joyful and feminine.

It was not difficult to believe in his mantra when faced with his collections. Oscar’s lines were often dominated by a feminine aesthetic, with his most recent catwalk show being swathed in pink roses, peonies and hydrangeas.

One of the first successes of the De la Renta brand was his exclusive designs for two of the first ladies, Jackie Kennedy and Hilary Clinton. He also recently dressed the ever chic Michelle Obama.

Upon news of his passing, social media was rife with tributes in the form of Oscar de la Renta quotes which resonated in the hearts of women around the world – the most famous being ‘Walk like you have three men walking behind you.’

Laura Bush states that he was ‘The man who made women look and feel beautiful’, which was proved simply by taking a glance at some of his exceptional creations, such as the dress worn by Sarah Jessica Parker at the 2014 Met Gala.

One of his last successes was designing the highly anticipated wedding dress for Amal Clooney for the most talked about event of the year.

Oscar de la Renta was known as one of the most gracious gentlemen in the business – he was a credit to fashion and will be sorely missed.
