The 2015 Childsplay Clothing Liverpool Fashion Week kicked off with a sensational catwalk show featuring star models and local bands this evening. At the Liner Hotel the main hall was packed out with photographers, local business exhibitors and guests milling over the free goody bag and people-watching.

The most confident kids I’ve ever seen, strutted down the runway with huge smiles and bundles of attitude in funky street wear and special occasion ensembles for Childsplay Clothing. Each one sported a fabulous accessory such as braces, glitter high-tops or furry head-gear to top off their looks.

Award-winning local designer Erica Wildflower sent an eclectic mix of multi-colour sequined dresses, leotards and jumpsuits down the runway with a real 70/80’s vibe. Her two-part show featured a mix of religious symbols (crown of thorns, jewel encrusted crosses) and mosaic tipped skirts, jewelled capes and two full calf length skirts reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. #love

A break in proceedings allowed for a brilliant live performance by two piece band Oh Deary Me (vocalist Jamie & guitarist Jake) who entertained the crowds with a brilliant mash-up of 90’s and 00’s tracks.

The second half of the show saw national retailer John Lewis showcase their AW15 70’s inspired leather skirts and woollen shift dresses accessorised with Cossack hats and leopard-print tippets. I tweeted my surprise at their extensive range of on-trend styles…Bravo!

Highlight of the night for me was the Threads by North West Design Works collection. A high energy show with male models sporting dramatic make up to complement neutral tone jackets and camo harem pants ensembles.

Liverpool’s very own Jay Hynd (Juice FM) took to the stage and raucous applause in a branded Doc Marten print tee and bomber jacket complete with low-slung key chain. The rest of the collection showcased a real flair for tailoring and use of print with a mix of tartan, pinstripe and monochrome pieces that fit and flattered perfectly.

Once again, event organiser Amanda Moss has created a dynamic opening show full of energy. The over-flow of people straining to take photos from the hallways are the proof! Join me tomorrow for a round up night two, emerging designers.
