Emmecosta had a particularly busy 2015.
After breaking through with debut single Brontos which Clash accurately described as ‘post-club’, the trio from Gothenburg have been paving their own soundtrack to that time when it’s too late to go to bed, but too early to get up.
Then end of 2015 saw the guys release Snowboy, followed by being asked to open for Chimes and playing a slot at the Rockaway Beach Festival alongside Young Fathers and Ghostpoet. The stage was seemingly set.
Emmecosta’s new present His Power Of Youth is made of aesthetics painted in a vacuum of imaginary landscapes dissolved in the human soul. An alphabet where language is a simple poetic sequence of continuous signs and sounds.
“Post-club tropical indie soul” is perhaps genre Emmecosta are going for. And why shouldn’t they… After all it’s 21st century where the sonic world is their creative oyster. Start with London Bass artists Belgrave and NOVAA, then combine the production of Mount Kimbie and Gold Panda and you’ll see what platform we’re on here. There are elements of James Blake’s usage of sonic space in a relaxed manner, and topped with Josef Salvat’s more acoustic details of the Hustler-esque pulsating backbone of the production. It’s really, really good…
Emmecosta have a new EP due in January, following up from this years debut effort titled Untied – taken from the inspiration they received when modeling for Christian Correnti’s new Bowtie in 2015.
In the meantime, His Power Of Youth will be available in all the Friday 4th November 2016 on Icons Creating Evil Art.
“We’ve all felt that moment of post-clubbing clarity alone in those grey, early hours of the morning. Depriving yourself of sleep somehow gives you a weird sense of understanding.” – Noisey
“When you’re feeling fragile and the light enters your eyes like daggers, this is the kind of music you need to listen to: emotive, comforting, and gentle all at once.” Complex UK
