Liverpool Music Week has added the legendary Seasick Steve to this year’s stellar lineup.
The world-renowned ‘American bluesman’ will perform at Liverpool Olympia Theatre on Saturday 7th November.
The legendary Seasick Steve aka Steven Gene Wold, was born in Oakland, California in 1941, an artiste in every sense of the word, famous for his unique guitar playing and story telling ability through his music referring to his early life living rough.
His fans include the likes of Janis Joplin and Joni Mitchell. In 2009 he was nominated for a Brit Award as ‘International Solo Male Artist.’
Following the success of his last two sell-out tours, we urge you to buy tickets early. Tickets on sale from 9am Wednesday 9th September.
Other acts announced for Liverpool Music Week are Kasabian, The Specials, Reverend And The Makers, The Enemy and The Gallows.
We are also pleased to announce the first acts for the free festival, and the first venue partnership of 2009. The Masque Theatre has undergone major refurbishment, and has been restored to its former glory, and will be one of the main venues at the heart of LMW’s festival activities. The free festival takes place across dozens of Liverpool’s city-centre venues and we will announce further venue partnerships & acts over the next couple of weeks.
Improv geniuses – The Bays will perform a free show at the Masque Theatre on Friday 13th November and will be their first Liverpool performance since their collaboration with Heritage Orchestra at Philharmonic Hall.
The Bays are all about improvised live performances, they never rehearse, they don’t have a set-list and no performance is the same. It’s all about the moment – an experience or an event that exists between the band and the audience for one time only, to see their first Liverpool solo performance free will be a treat for all LMW fans.
Another act confirmed for the free shows is Manchester indie rockers Twisted Wheel who also play The Masque Theatre on 6th November. The trio have quickly earned themselves a reputation as one of the hardest working touring bands around, completing several headline tours across the UK, performing with the likes of Oasis, Paul Weller and Ian Brown.
Liverpool Music Week is the UK’s biggest indoor winter music festival, hosting over 80 events across 20 city centre venues and featuring over 300 live acts. The festival which is now in its seventh year brings together some of the UK’s hottest acts and offers fresh and emerging talent a platform to perform.
LMW Director James Barton comments: “Seasick Steve proves the calibre of artiste that Liverpool Music Week can attract, with this year’s festival shaping up to be the most diverse yet.”
LMW Director Mike Deane comments: “Seasick Steve is an artist that all of us here at Liverpool Music Week wanted on the bill.
“Seeing this man perform in the incredible setting of The Olympia Theatre will be something any music fan won’t want to miss.”
“The Bays and Twisted Wheel are just the tip of the iceberg for the city-centre free shows, we’ve some hugely innovative and exciting announcements to come, and we’re thrilled to announce these two very exciting and very different acts as our first free festival announcement.”
