Much loved British rock band Kasabian, have announced that lead singer and front man, Tom Meighan, is leaving the band, apparently ‘by mutual consent’.

The news was posted across their social media sites, including Twitter and Instagram, in a statement from an official spokesperson for the band.

The statement read “Kasabian have announced today that Tom Meighan is stepping down from the band by mutual consent.Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for quite some time and now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track.

We will not be commenting further.”

Meighan has been the front man and lead vocalist in the band since they formed in 1997, and has long been known for having an argumentative side.

Most notably, the musician has attempted to start feuds with many other notable people in the music industry, including calling Julian Casablancas from The Strokes ‘a posh f***ing skier, and Pete Doherty a ‘f***ing tramp’, not to mention branding Justin Timberlake as a ‘midget with whiskers’.

The singer is apparently aware of his behaviour being inappropriate, telling the Daily Record in an interview that he was making an effort to tone down the aggression he puts across in interviews.

The singer said “When we released the first album, it didn’t help in interviews that we slagged everyone off. We were only messing about, we were having fun, but everyone took it a little too seriously. We did it for effect but we were portrayed as monsters instead of just a bunch of lads in a band.”.

Although this will be a rocky time for the band, hopefully Meighan will be able to resolve his personal issues, and the rest of the band will be able to flourish, with less controversy surrounding them.

Having released six studio albums, received several notable rewards, and headlined Glastonbury Music Festival in 2014, they’re not a band to be forgotten anytime soon.
