Jamiroquai make an astounding comeback with new album ‘Automaton’. After forming in 1992 with an acid-azz/funk sound, Jamiroquai have explored different genres, like pop, rock and electronica throughout their 8 album releases with Sony. The band have sold 35 million albums worldwide, with their most recent hitting number one on iTunes in 38 different countries.
The frontman, Jay Kay, or the Buffalo Man, is a jazz-infused soul man, which shines through the 8 albums the group have released. The comeback marks an era where Jamiroquai and Jay Kay both represent ‘the future and the past’, with existing fans welcoming the new album, as well as the group attracting a new set of the younger generation’s love for the band. ‘Automaton’ itself is a mixture of electro-funk, sci-fi groves and holds a techno vibe, iconic of the Jamiroquai album. As well as the 35 million album sold, the groups frontman has earned five sold-out world tours, Ivor Novello gongs, an MTV Moonmen as well as multiple Grammy’s.
To mark their comeback and their upcoming tour, with the help of Dutch DJ, Oliver Heldens, Jamiroquai have released a remix of their song ‘Superfresh’. The remix combines the future-funk sound of the band with a bass-heavy house sound to create a seamless blend of lyricism and bass, perfect for the dance genre. ‘Cloud 9’, the first single released from the new album, receives critically acclaimed reviews from NME and Rolling Stone, whilst ‘Superfresh (Oliver Heldens Remix)’ catches a wider audience, with EDMSauce stating the track will be ‘making waves across all clubs and festivals this summer. And that is exactly what the group hope to achieve following the success of ‘Automaton’.
The group are set to travel the continent at festivals in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Finland and the UK, with their last festival on the 12th of August at Boardmasters. The festival portion of their tours kicks off on the 7th of July in Spain. However, the group doesn’t stop there, after travelling the continent for festivals in the summer, they will be back to it with their autumn tour.
Jamiroquai are set to headline their own European tour hitting venues like the Manchester Arena on the 2nd November and the Velodrom in Berlin on the 16th of November. The band will also touch down in Amsterdam, Milan and ending the 2017 ‘Automaton’ tour in the O2 Arena in London.
