FALSE ADVERTISING are delighted to announce the ‘Brainless’ EP and with it a slew of dates across the UK.

In September 2015, Manchester DIY trio False Advertising released their eponymous debut album. The band’s grunge infused noise-pop garnered much word-of-mouth acclaim: Total Guitar hailed them ‘Guitarists to Watch in 2016’, whist the long-player was an ‘Album of the Year’ in Manchester Evening News, The Skinny and Shoplifters Union, with plays on Amazing Radio for album tracks and the video for single Dozer featuring on The Guardian.

Live the band’s instrument-swapping high energy sets won over fans and saw them quickly booked for festivals including Dot to Dot and Chorlton Arts Festival (as main support to Young Knives) plus saw them play packed-out headline shows across the UK.

Now the band return with the Brainless E.P. which continues where previous single Dozer left off, fusing an uncanny knack for sophisticated song-craft with brash loudness.

“ferocious grunge-infused noise-pop; a thrilling distillation of melody and noise that rummages through indie’s back pages from the Breeders and Belly to Hole and Pixies.” – Manchester Evening News

“Many bands have embraced grunge’s more appealing side, but False Advertising bath in the backlash: think In Utero with the ugly bits emphasized.” – Total Guitar

“Neo-grunge chops with distinct character and uncommonly accomplished song craft” – The Skinny

Self-proclaimed purveyors of “twisted power-grunge”, False Advertising offer up dreamy soaring male/female harmonies blended with distorted guitars on You’re Too Slow and some American-noise-rock in Piece of My Mind, both reminiscent of the melodic grunge soundscapes of The Smashing Pumpkins and contemporaries Kagoule. There’s the airier alt-pop tones of end track Sigh and the loud fuzzed guitar of Give It Your Worst, while lead track Alopecia is fast, with it breakneck pace and fraught punk v’s grunge guitar smashing, with vocalist Jen Hingley’s battle-cry of “I hope my hair don’t fall out” hinting at an underlying worrisome tone.

The Brainless E.P. was written during a tumultuous period for Hingley last Autumn, resulting in often bittersweet and at times, gut-wrenching lyrics. As Hingley explains: “I experienced this thing in my family that was just so cruel. It left me helpless, bitter and frustrated. The bulk of the EP is kinda this weird sarcastic take on that feeling of loss.”

The Brainless E.P. was self recorded and produced at Hingley’s DIY garage-studio in Oxfordshire on a December weekend and is released on 22 April [CD/Digitally]. On the same day, E.P. track You’re Too Slow will be released as a stand-alone digital single, both preceded by the digital single Alopecia out on 11 March. All self-released via False Advertising’s Bandcamp. The track Give It Your Worst will be released via Too Pure Singles Club this summer.
