Emerging Afrobeats star Yilly Ruel proved he’s a creative force to be reckoned with, during his first headline performance in Liverpool, Mo Kubico.
A warm show, styled in the manner of welcoming the audience into the artist’s home.
The Angolan rapper has been building a steady fan base since establishing himself on the city’s effervescent music scene.
And now the secret is out, it’s only a matter of time before you start trying to convince your friends that you knew who this artist was, before they did!
Performing stand out track God Bless The Kid to a sell out crowd, Yilly oozed confidence from every pore as he displayed his craft.
Stalking the stage in silk pajamas and sunglasses (the audience were also invited to don their best nightwear and duly obliged), Yilly showcased his star potential.
Soon the gathered throng was eating out of the palm of his hand, singing along and even demanding a dance off.
Yilly also showed his prowess as a producer of great vibes with his deft selection of supporting acts, which all perfectly complemented each other.
The artists gelled together and joined the crowd in cheering for their cohort on stage. Such is the humble confidence and belief of Yilly, that it’s catching and he appears to make everyone around him shine too. The feeling is infectious!
The show took place at VideOdyssey Studios, Toxteth TV and was filmed on the studio cameras. We had a quiet word with the production crew and they had never had an event like this in the venue before and assured us it was one that will be remembered.
Liverpool spoken word and rap artist Blue Saint opened the proceedings with aplomb and warmed the audience up with a resounding call and response interaction to crowd pleaser Lamith Tramell.
All the support acts dazzled, with Prosper and Leetz looked at home on the stage under the studio lights.
Such was the pull and electric atmosphere of the night, that the audience demanded an encore and the band
Rax Vibes fully obliged, with Yilly emerging from the VideOdyssey video shop, turned green room to ratchet the atmosphere up to the maximum again. The audience still yearned for more, with one female fan asking: “When’s the next show?”
We’re sure it will be soon. Make sure you’re there to witness this star on the rise.
The show was filmed and will be released shortly. Follow Yilly Ruel for updates:
